BRIDGING YOU TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Do I need an attorney to file for bankruptcy?

Transcription:
00:03 hi my name is attorney Robert M Geller I
00:07 am in a consumer bankruptcy attorney in
00:09 the Tampa Bay area and I want to talk to
00:12 you today about whether you need an
00:14 attorney to file a bankruptcy well let’s
00:17 consider that first of all when you file
00:19 a bankruptcy you must claim the right
00:23 exemptions to keep your property if you
00:26 do not claim the right exemptions you
00:28 can lose your home you can lose some of
00:31 your property the trustee can take it
00:34 away from you and most importantly you
00:36 may not even know what exemptions to
00:38 claim I have seen clients come in my
00:40 office who did not understand what the
00:42 exemptions are and have a trustee
00:45 chasing them chasing after them to take
00:48 their property the bankruptcy petition
00:51 is about 60 pages and about 12 to 13
00:54 different parts it is very complicated
00:57 law and it is very complicated to fill
01:01 out the forms you will need to list all
01:04 of your assets and liabilities in filing
01:07 a bankruptcy as well you also will have
01:11 to go to court about 30 days after you
01:14 file your bankruptcy you will have to
01:16 testify under oath and most of the time
01:20 your bankruptcy schedules are reviewed
01:23 by the Department of Justice I would
01:25 suggest that you should be filing a
01:27 bankruptcy with a competent experienced
01:30 bankruptcy attorney
