The most common reason that somebody files a Chapter 13 is because of their home. A Chapter 13 can help somebody catch up on back mortgage payments and in some situations can help them get rid of a second or third mortgage.
Chapter 13 is a way of somebody dealing with their problems of the fact that they're behind on their payments, either on their house or on their car and they got behind because they lost their job, but now they're back to work and they can't catch up all the payments at one time. So a Chapter 13 gives them the ability to catch up the payments over a longer period of time.
